    "How to Reduce Burnout and Improve Employee Retention"

    Overview:  

    Employee burnout and disengagement are no longer isolated issues—they are real organizational risks. This session will examine practical, people-centered strategies to increase employee engagement while reducing burnout. Blending theory with real-world application, this session focuses on what HR can influence most: organizational systems, business practices, employee capabilities, and culture. Attendees will gain actionable tools and strategies you can apply to support employee well-being, strengthen engagement, and create more sustainable and motivating work environments.

    Objectives:

    1. Identify frequent causes of employee burnout
    2. Examine strategies for improving workplace enjoyment and sustainability
    3. Recommend strategies for valuing employee retention

    Presenter:  Krystal Brue


    Krystal Brue is a Professor of Management and Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies at the McMahon School of Business as Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.  Her Ph.D. is in Business Administration, and she has over 30 years of human resource, organizational behavior, and training and development experience.  She has presented numerous articles within the Journal of Leadership Education, Administrative Issues Journal, and Journal of Human Resources Education on work-life balance, women in leadership, anti-harassment cultures, and current HR employment trends. 


    This program has been approved for 1 re-certification credit hour toward SHRM and HRCI for Professional Development credits (PDCs).

    Title:  HR's Role in Crisis Planning and Management

    Human Resources plays a critical role in preparing organizations for, responding to, and recovering from crises. This session highlights how HR supports proactive crisis planning through risk assessment, policy development, and clear communication strategies. During a crisis, HR serves as a central point for employee communication, compliance guidance, and workforce support


    Bio: 

    Teresa Abram is a subject matter expert in crisis planning, management, and communication with extensive experience in public sector, education, and emergency management environments. She has presented for the Oklahoma CareerTech Marketing and Communications Council, the Oklahoma School Public Relations Association, and Leadership Lawton–Fort Sill, and she teaches the FEMA Public Information Officer (PIO) Basics course for the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management.

    Teresa serves as Director of Marketing and Communications at Great Plains Technology Center and is a nationally accredited public relations professional and FEMA-certified Master Public Information Officer. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Cameron University and a master’s degree from the University of Wyoming, and is currently pursuing a second master’s in Organizational Leadership through Cameron University’s School of Business. She also serves as an adjunct marketing professor for Cameron University’s School of Business.


    Cost: Free for SWOKHR members, $10 for non-members.


    This program has been approved for SHRM and HRCI recertification credit.

    This program will be held at Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 11:30 AM. Our speaker is Adam Childers, President/CEO of Crowe Dunlevy.

    A year in review and a preview of 2026:

    • We will review changes in labor and employment law in 2025. 
    • We will review key changes in labor and employment law in 2026. 
    • We will also look into the future to hypothesize as to what the Trump administration may do in 2026 and beyond.

    The session will be held in Classroom D113. You will enter via Entrance 2 and park in Parking Lot D. Lunch will be provided. RSVP is required. 


    Adam W. Childers serves as President and CEO at Crowe & Dunlevy, and is the chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (1997) and his Juris Doctor degree (2000), both with honors, from the University of Oklahoma. He also attended the Summer Program at the Queens College at Oxford University in Oxford, England.

    This program will be delivered in-person with no virtual option.

    Cancellations must be requested 72 hours in advance in order to receive a refund. If you are unable to attend, an alternate may be sent in your place.
